Briefing weekend

Greece 2015 - our first team photo!
In March, we all met up as a group for the first time at Broneirion. We got to know each other better, and amongst other things, attempted to build a marshmallow acropolis! We also learnt some more about the project we will be doing this summer and talked about what we would like to do whilst we are in Greece.

Marshmallow acropolis!
Our clothing had arrived as well

It also gave us chance to discuss our kit list and group charter. Our mascot was named Hermes (after the Greek God of travel) and takes pride of place in the centre of the badge we designed. We also put together lots of ideas for a Greek theme night which we are going to do with our own units

Our project

In July 2015, 7 senior section members and 2 leaders from Girlguiding Cymru will be going to Greece for two weeks to take part in a project in the Greek town of Oropos. We will be working with the Greek charity Citizens in Action who aim to promote active citizenship to young people and to contribute to the community and local development. Our project will involve work at an old prison which they are aiming to develop into a training centre for human rights and democracy, with renovation of buildings and helping with a festival taking place there for the ‘day of democracy’. Lots of hard work and fundraising has gone into organising what we hope will be a great two weeks for everyone involved!
